The 2004 Tetsujin 28-go anime, directed by Imagawa Yasuhiro, reinterprets the Tetsujin 28-go manga with a heavier focus on wartime trauma, weapons development, and the psychological burden on Shotaro Kaneda. Its retro character designs and meticulous depiction of post-war Kobe earned critical praise.

By revisiting themes of responsibility and war crimes in a modern production, the series cemented Tetsujin 28-go’s reputation as more than simple children’s entertainment.
