The 1963 black-and-white Tetsujin 28-go anime brought Tetsujin 28 to television audiences and helped define the look and feel of early giant robot series. It adapts Yokoyama Mitsuteru’s manga, focusing on boy detective Shotaro Kaneda as he remotely controls Tetsujin to battle criminals, rival robots like Black Ox, and remnants of wartime science.

Internationally, this series became known as Gigantor in its heavily localised American broadcast, introducing Western viewers to the giant robot concept.
