Space Launch

The Space Launch was a space transport shuttle produced by the Earth Federation Forces for ferrying personnel between vessels and space colonies.

History

The Earth Federation Forces used the Space Launch as its primary shuttle for transporting personnel in space. It served both as a liaison craft for ship-to-ship communications and as an emergency escape vessel.

The Space Launch proved vital during the final battle of the One Year War on 31 December UC 0079. When the assault carrier White Base crashed on the Principality of Zeon space fortress A Baoa Qu, the crew successfully evacuated using Space Launches before the ship’s destruction.

Both the Federation and the Anti Earth Union Group continued to use variants of the Space Launch through UC 0087-0088. The shuttle remained a common sight at space ports and military facilities.

Design

The Space Launch was designed primarily for short-range personnel transport between space vessels, colonies, and military installations. Its simple but reliable design made it well-suited for both routine transport missions and emergency evacuations.

The shuttle featured a pressurised cabin that could accommodate varying numbers of passengers depending on the mission requirements. Four rocket thrusters provided propulsion in space, with additional manoeuvring thrusters enabling precise docking procedures.

Behind the scenes

Okawara Kunio was the original mechanical designer for the Mobile Suit Gundam version. Akitaka Mika designed the version that appeared in the Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin anime series. Ohtagaki Yasuo created the version seen in the Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt manga.
