Shinei Nouzen

Shinei Nouzen (シンエイ・ノウゼン), commonly called Shin, is the male protagonist of 86 -Eighty-Six-. An Eighty-Six pilot codenamed Undertaker, he leads Spearhead Squadron on the Eastern Front, feared by friend and foe alike as the Reaper for his unmatched combat record and merciful habit of ending the suffering of dying comrades.

Shin possesses a rare natural esper ability that lets him hear the “voices of the dead” and the Legion, allowing him to detect enemy movements without conventional sensors. This power, which earned him the Legion designation Báleygr, gives him a decisive tactical edge but also burdens him with the constant echoes of those who have died on the battlefield.

Despite his stoic demeanour, Shin is quietly kind and deeply loyal to his squadron. Over years of fighting he becomes the de facto operations commander of the Eighty-Sixth Strike Package, carrying the memories of the fallen whilst continuing to fight for a future where the Eighty-Six are recognised as human.
