RB-79F Ball Type F
Amored Type Ball variant used by the Earth Federation.
The RB-79K Ball Type K was a variant of the standard Ball deployed by the Earth Federation. It was also known as the armored Type Ball.
The “F” variant code denoted it as the sixth variation of the RB-79.
History

At the beginning of the One Year War with the Principality of Zeon, the Earth Federation had no mobile suits and faced a disadvantage against Zeon’s mobile suits.
Although the Federation managed to design a powerful prototype mobile suit, the RX-78-2 Gundam, it was too costly to be mass produced. They later developed it into their first mass-production mobile suit, the RGM-79 GM, but its production was not fast enough to meet the demands of the battle fronts. To shore up their forces, the Federation refitted around 1,200 civilian-use SP-W03 Space Pods into the RB-79 Ball for combat.
Among these were the Type F variant that had extra armor for missions that required more protection.

Design

The Federation engineers equipped the RB-79F Ball Type F with heavier armor to address the vulnerability of the Ball. With an empty weight of 21.5 tonnes, it was significantly heavier than the 17.2 tonnes of the standard Ball.
To compensate for the extra 3.3 tonnes of weight, they also added a booster pack attached to the rear. It consisted of additional thrusters and propellant.
It had a standard cockpit located in the center of the Ball.
Armament
Like the RB-79 Ball, the Ball Type F had a 180 mm recoilless cannon mounted on its top, providing limited power effective against light armor. Due to the fixed angle of the cannon, it was only effective against targets in front of the Ball.
