MSM-07S Z'Gok Commander Type

The MSM-07S Z’Gok Commander Type was a commander type amphibious mobile suit mass produced by the MIP Company for the Principality of Zeon. It was an improved version of the MSM-07 Z’Gok.

The “MS” in the type code meant it was a mobile suit, and the “M” identified it as a marine model. The “07” model number indicated it was the seventh design, while the “S” variant code identified it as a commander type.1

History

During the One Year War, the Principality of Zeon developed various mobile weapons to advance its territories on Earth. The Zimmad designed the MSM-03 Gogg that revolutionised marine mobile suit design. This success prompted its competitor, the Zeonic, to develop the MSM-04 Acguy using similar concepts.

The MIP Company joined the competition and developed the MSM-07 Z’Gok, which proved to be the most successful amphibious mobile suit design. Building on this success, MIP Company created the improved MSM-07S Z’Gok Commander Type.

The Z’Gok Commander Type was typically assigned to ace pilots and squad leaders. On 30 November UC 0079, ace pilot Char Aznable piloted a unit during Zeon’s assault on the Earth Federation headquarters at Jaburo. Though the attack failed, Char survived and escaped in his Z’Gok Commander Type.

Design

The Z’Gok Commander Type improved upon the base Z’Gok with a more powerful reactor and optimised use of armor materials. These changes resulted in reduced weight and enhanced performance compared to the original model.

Unlike the MSM-03 Gogg and MSM-04 Acguy which used heavy ballast water tanks for reactor cooling, the Z’Gok Commander Type employed an innovative propeller cooling system. This system drew in water when submerged and air when on land to cool the reactor, providing efficient temperature regulation in both environments while reducing weight.

The removal of ballast tanks significantly improved the mobile suit’s agility both underwater and on land. Combined with its powerful thrusters, the Z’Gok Commander Type demonstrated superior mobility compared to other amphibious mobile suits of its era.

Armaments

The Z’Gok Commander Type’s standard weapons were mega particle cannons mounted in its palms for ranged attacks, and iron nails for close combat.

240 mm missile launcher

Six 240 mm missile launchers were mounted in the mobile suit’s head, each carrying five rounds for a total of 30 missiles. While these missiles could be fired underwater, they had limited resistance to hydrostatic pressure. They were primarily used after surfacing or for anti-aircraft defence.

Mega particle cannon

A mega particle cannon was mounted in each of the Z’Gok Commander Type’s palms, drawing power directly from the mobile suit’s reactor. Each cannon had an output of 3.2 MW and featured high beam focusing capability.

Iron nail

Instead of standard manipulators like those found on the MS-06 Zaku II, the Z’Gok Commander Type had three claws built into each arm surrounding the mega particle cannons. These iron nails could pierce through mobile suit armor when combined with the thrust from the mobile suit’s powerful propulsion system.
