Human Reform League
Major power bloc led by China, India, and Russia.
The Human Reform League (人類革新連盟, Jinrui Kakushin Renmei), commonly abbreviated as HRL, is a major power bloc in the Anno Domini timeline. The HRL is a coalition of nations led by China, India, and Russia that controls Asia and parts of Eastern Europe. Along with the Union and the Advanced European Union (AEU), the HRL is one of the three major power blocs that dominate the world in AD 2307.
History
Formation
The Human Reform League was formed in the 2300s as a coalition of Asian and Eastern European nations, with China, India, and Russia serving as the leading members. The HRL’s formation was driven by the global shift to solar energy and the need for international cooperation to maintain economic and military competitiveness.
The HRL’s capital is located in Beijing, reflecting China’s prominent role in the coalition. The coalition maintains a more authoritarian structure compared to the Union and AEU, with stronger centralised control and less emphasis on democratic principles.
Political structure
The HRL operates as a coalition with authoritarian characteristics, with member nations maintaining varying degrees of autonomy whilst cooperating on economic and military matters. The HRL’s political system emphasises centralised control and collective action, reflecting the values of its leading member nations.
The HRL’s military forces are equipped with advanced mobile suit technology and maintain significant space capabilities. The HRL’s military development includes controversial programmes such as the Super Soldier programme, which created enhanced soldiers through psychological conditioning and brain modification.
Conflicts and challenges
The HRL engages in proxy wars and military exercises with the Union and AEU, maintaining its influence through military strength and economic power. These conflicts, whilst not full-scale wars, demonstrate the ongoing tensions between the power blocs and the fragile balance of power that maintains relative peace.
The HRL faces challenges from Celestial Being’s armed intervention operations, which target all parties in conflicts regardless of their affiliation. The organisation’s technological superiority forces the HRL to develop new military technologies and strategies to respond effectively.
Society and culture
HRL society reflects the diverse cultures and values of its member nations, with a stronger emphasis on collective action and centralised control compared to the Union and AEU. The HRL’s culture is shaped by Asian and Eastern European traditions, with China, India, and Russia playing prominent roles in shaping the coalition’s values and practices.
The HRL’s emphasis on solar energy has shaped its society and economy, with solar power infrastructure playing a central role in daily life. The transition to solar energy has created new industries and opportunities whilst reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
Technology
The HRL’s technological development focuses on mobile suit technology and space infrastructure. The HRL’s mobile suits are among the most advanced in the world, utilising cutting-edge technology to maintain military parity with other power blocs. The HRL’s space infrastructure includes solar power generation systems and space colonies that support its energy needs.
The HRL’s controversial Super Soldier programme represents one aspect of its technological development, creating enhanced soldiers through psychological conditioning and brain modification. This programme, whilst effective, raises ethical questions about the treatment of individuals and the methods used to create superior soldiers.
The HRL’s response to Celestial Being’s GN Drive technology drives further technological development, as HRL scientists and engineers work to understand and counter the organisation’s advanced capabilities.
Military
The HRL maintains a powerful military force equipped with advanced mobile suits and space capabilities. The HRL’s military is organised to respond to threats from other power blocs and organisations such as Celestial Being, maintaining readiness through training exercises and technological development.
The HRL’s military capabilities include advanced mobile suits such as the MSJ-06II-C Tieren, which serve as the primary mobile suits for HRL forces. The HRL’s Super Soldier programme produces enhanced soldiers who serve in special operations and elite units, providing the coalition with superior combat personnel.
