HGUC RX-105 Xi Gundam is Bandai Spirits’ High Grade Universal Century flagship for Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway, translating the Minovsky Flight system mobile suit into 1/144 scale with a launch price of ¥6,000 and an April 2021 street date.

Overview

Bandai produced the Xi Gundam to coincide with the cinematic release of Hathaway’s Flash, positioning the HGUC as a premium High Grade with layered armour shells, a transformation-ready inner structure, and an aerodynamically faithful flight silhouette. The engineering emphasises the Xi’s bulk without sacrificing silhouette accuracy, and the packaging leans into the Hathaway marketing push with Morishita Naochika’s key art.

Features

  • Minovsky Flight frame that supports both mobile suit and flight configurations via dedicated replacement forearm and skirt assemblies.
  • Full suite of beam armaments: beam rifle, shield, and removable shoulder beam sabre hilts that double as handheld weapons.
  • Extensive articulation across double-jointed elbows and knees, rotating forearm armour, articulated skirt panels, and a sliding backpack adaptor for balanced posing.
  • Dedicated adapters for compatibility with Action Base 1 and 4, allowing in-air display options out of the box.

Build experience

The kit splits the armour across large shells with internal supports, so sub-assemblies are sizeable yet manageable. Expect seam concealment thanks to directional part separation, but dry-fitting the enormous shoulder binders is advised before final assembly. The instructions recommend reinforcing the hip ball joints if repeated posing is planned, and the clean PS runners respond well to panel lining and topcoat to emphasise the layered armour surfaces.

Kit content

  • RX-105 Xi Gundam body
  • Beam rifle and transformable shield unit
  • Two beam sabre effect blades with shoulder-mounted hilts
  • Manipulator set: multi-purpose holding pair, dedicated rifle right hand, open palms
  • Conversion parts for flight mode forearms and leg binders
  • Action Base adaptor set

Colour guide

Awaiting official manual breakdown. The Bandai manual provides the full paint matrix for the white, navy, orange, and grey armour blocks, which should be transcribed once the ratios are digitised.

Comparisons

The HGUC release sits alongside the HGUC Penelope as part of the Hathaway line. Compared with earlier HGUC flagship kits, the Xi carries a higher price to accommodate the mass of PS runners and the transformation gimmick. Collectors pairing it with Penelope will note matching engineering language, shared Action Base compatibility, and complementary shelf presence.
