HGUC RB-79 Ball Twin Set
High Grade Universal Century twin set featuring two RB-79 Ball units.
HGUC RB-79 Ball Twin Set landed on 11 September 2010 as a value two-pack, bundling a pair of mass-production Balls with interchangeable cannon options at a ¥1,300 list price.1
Overview
The release targets Universal Century diorama builders, providing two core pods and both the standard 180 mm low-recoil cannon and the double cannon variant in one box.1 Each unit mirrors the 0083 animation proportions and arrives with its own clear display stand.
Features
- Dual weapon load-out per Ball: swap between the low-recoil cannon or twin cannon without tools.1
- Dedicated stands per unit with adapters sized for Action Base compatibility, enabling aerial fleet configurations.
- Fully articulated manipulator claws with hinged elbow segments for expressive repairs or combat setups.
- Shared runner system with the GM Type C release, simplifying part replacement if mixing kits.
Build experience
Assembly is brisk—each Ball comprises symmetrical halves with minimal seam clean-up. Pay attention to the transparent cockpit parts; masking before topcoat prevents frosting. The ABS internal arms benefit from a light application of lubricant or graphite to preserve movement over time.
Kit content
- RB-79 Ball units (x2)
- 180 mm low-recoil cannon assemblies (x2)
- Double cannon assemblies (x2)
- Display stands with detachable Action Base-compatible pegs (x2)
- Manipulator arm sets with ball-jointed elbows
Colour guide
Awaiting official manual breakdown. Capture the manual’s ratios for the off-white hull, grey framework, and yellow viewport glazing once the data is transcribed.2
Comparisons
Compared with single-pack Ball releases, this twin set halves the cost per unit and adds variant cannons, making it ideal for fleet displays. Paired with the HGUC GM Type C & Ball Type C exclusive set, it rounds out a full Earth Federation hanger.
