Gundarium γ
Advanced armor material developed by Axis scientists that improved upon earlier Gundarium variants.
Gundarium γ was an improved variant of Gundarium alloy developed by Axis scientists after the One Year War. It achieved comparable performance to Gundarium α while using more common materials, making it more suitable for wider deployment.
History
After the One Year War, scientists who retreated to Axis developed Gundarium γ as part of their continued research into mobile suit technology. Quattro Bajeena later provided this technology to the Anti-Earth Union Group and Anaheim Electronics.
The RMS-099 Rick Dias was among the first mobile suits to utilize this new material, demonstrating its effectiveness in combat. The technology eventually spread to the Earth Federation Forces through Anaheim Electronics.
Technical Information
Composition
Unlike Gundarium α, which relied heavily on rare metals, Gundarium γ utilized:
- Magnesium
- Silicon
- Common industrial metals
- Nanometer-scale molecular engineering
Manufacturing
The manufacturing process involved:
- Precise molecular manipulation
- Advanced metallurgical techniques
- More standardized production methods
- Less reliance on rare materials
While still complex to manufacture, Gundarium γ proved more practical for limited production runs than its predecessors.
Properties
Gundarium γ offered several advantages:
- Comparable strength to Gundarium α
- Effective with thinner armor layers
- Improved workability
- Better heat resistance
- Enhanced beam weapon resistance
The reduced armor thickness allowed mobile suits to carry more propellant, improving their operational range and performance.
Applications
Military Use
Gundarium γ found use in various mobile suits:
- RMS-099 Rick Dias
- MSN-00100 Hyaku Shiki
- Various AEUG prototype units
Structural Applications
Beyond armor plating, the material was used in:
- Mobile suit frames
- Critical structural components
- Shield construction
- High-stress mechanical parts
Impact
Gundarium γ represented a significant advancement in mobile suit technology, bridging the gap between experimental materials and practical military applications. Its development influenced mobile suit design throughout the mid-Universal Century era.
Legacy
The success of Gundarium γ led to further research into composite materials, eventually resulting in the development of Gundarium composite and various ceramic-based armor materials.
Behind the scenes
Gundarium γ first appeared in Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, representing the technological advancement of the post One Year War era.
