GAT-X207 Blitz Gundam
ZAFT-captured stealth mobile suit with Mirage Colloid system.
The GAT-X207 Blitz Gundam was an Earth Alliance prototype mobile suit developed as part of the G Project in Cosmic Era 71. The Blitz Gundam’s defining feature was its Mirage Colloid stealth system, which allowed it to become temporarily invisible to sensors and visual detection. The mobile suit was captured by ZAFT forces during their attack on Heliopolis and was subsequently piloted by Nicol Amalfi, making it one of the four stolen G Project mobile suits.
Model Code Explanation: The “GAT” designation indicated an Earth Alliance General-purpose Assault Tactical mobile suit, whilst “X” denoted an experimental prototype. The “207” model number indicated it was part of the G Project’s five mobile suit development programme.
History
The Blitz Gundam was developed as part of the Earth Alliance’s G Project, designed for stealth and reconnaissance operations. The mobile suit’s Mirage Colloid system made it ideal for covert missions and surprise attacks, allowing it to approach enemies undetected before engaging in combat.
During ZAFT’s attack on Heliopolis, the Blitz Gundam was successfully captured along with three other G Project mobile suits. Nicol Amalfi, a ZAFT Elite pilot, was assigned to pilot the Blitz, utilising its stealth capabilities to engage Earth Alliance forces effectively.
The Blitz Gundam participated in numerous battles throughout the First Alliance-PLANT War, with its stealth system proving particularly effective in surprise attacks and reconnaissance missions. The mobile suit’s combat effectiveness was limited by the Mirage Colloid system’s energy consumption, requiring careful management of its stealth capabilities.
Design
The Blitz Gundam’s design emphasised stealth and close-combat capabilities through its Mirage Colloid system and specialised armament. The mobile suit featured Phase Shift Armor like other G Project mobile suits, providing excellent protection against physical attacks. The Blitz’s most distinctive feature was its ability to become invisible using the Mirage Colloid system, though this capability was limited by energy constraints.
The mobile suit’s color scheme, primarily dark blue and black, reflected its stealth-oriented design. The Blitz’s overall appearance emphasised its role as a reconnaissance and stealth assault unit, with its design optimised for covert operations.
Armaments
The Blitz Gundam’s armament was designed for close-combat and stealth operations, with the “Tristan” anchor-launcher serving as its primary weapon. The mobile suit also carried beam sabres and a shield for additional combat capabilities.
”Tristan” Anchor-Launcher
The Blitz’s primary weapon was the “Tristan” anchor-launcher, a unique weapon that could fire a grappling anchor to disable enemy mobile suits. The weapon could also be used as a close-combat weapon, making it versatile for the Blitz’s stealth-oriented combat style.
MA-M20 “Lupus” Beam Sabres
Two beam sabres provided close-combat capability. One was integrated into the shield, whilst another could be used separately, giving the Blitz flexibility in close combat.
Shield
The Blitz carried a physical shield that incorporated a beam saber and provided protection against both physical and beam attacks. The shield’s design incorporated Phase Shift Armor for enhanced durability.
Mirage Colloid System
The Blitz’s most distinctive feature was its Mirage Colloid stealth system, which could render the mobile suit invisible to sensors and visual detection. However, the system consumed significant energy, limiting its operational time and requiring careful management during combat.

Behind the scenes
The Blitz Gundam was designed by Kunio Okawara for Mobile Suit Gundam SEED, serving as Nicol Amalfi’s mobile suit. The Mirage Colloid stealth system was created to provide tactical interest and to distinguish the Blitz from other G Project mobile suits.
The mobile suit’s name, “Blitz”, referred to the German word for “lightning”, reflecting its speed and stealth capabilities. The design emphasised the mobile suit’s role as a reconnaissance and stealth assault unit.
