FHA-03M1 Mega Bazooka Launcher
Long-range support weapon system developed for the MSN-00100 Hyaku-Shiki.
The FHA-03M1 Mega Bazooka Launcher was a long-range mega particle cannon developed by Anaheim Electronics initially for the exclusive use of AEUG pilot Char Aznable’s MSN-00100 Hyaku-Shiki. The weapon system represented a significant advancement in mobile suit-portable heavy weaponry, providing firepower that exceeded that of battleship cannons.
History
The FHA-03M1 Mega Bazooka Launcher was developed during the Gryps Conflict in UC 0087 as part of Anaheim Electronics’ efforts to provide the AEUG with weapons capable of matching the heavy firepower of Titans forces. The weapon was specifically designed for Char Aznable’s MSN-00100 Hyaku-Shiki, taking advantage of the mobile suit’s excellent manoeuvrability to compensate for the weapon’s bulk and operational limitations.
Char used the Mega Bazooka Launcher extensively during the latter stages of the Gryps Conflict, where its devastating firepower proved crucial in several key engagements. The weapon’s ability to destroy heavily armoured targets with a single shot made it invaluable against Titans mobile armours and fortified positions.
The original Mega Bazooka Launcher assigned to Char was destroyed during the final battle of the Gryps Conflict in February UC 0088, when the Hyaku-Shiki came under intense enemy fire during the climactic confrontation at Gryps 2.
Later service
During the Laplace Incident in UC 0096, the design resurfaced in the hands of ECOAS forces. ECOAS pilot Conroy Haagensen used another FHA-03M1 unit whilst piloting an RGM-89De Jegan ECOAS Type to defend the Londo Bell ship Nahel Argama from a Neo Zeon attack. This demonstrated the continued relevance of the weapon system nearly a decade after its original deployment.
Design
The FHA-03M1 Mega Bazooka Launcher was designed as a modular weapon system that could operate independently of its parent mobile suit whilst remaining under the pilot’s control. The weapon featured a distinctive configuration that allowed it to transform between compact transport mode and extended firing mode.
Power system
The Mega Bazooka Launcher was powered by an internal Minovsky reactor that provided the enormous energy required for its mega particle cannon. However, due to the weapon’s extremely high power requirements, charging time between shots was considerable. To address this limitation, the system included capability to connect to an external mobile suit power supply via cable, allowing the parent mobile suit to function as an external energy tank to reduce charging time.
Mobility and transport
The weapon included its own propulsion system consisting of rocket thrusters, allowing it to move independently in space. This feature enabled the mobile suit to essentially “hitch a ride” on the Launcher during transport without expending its own propellant, significantly extending operational range during long-distance missions.
When not in firing configuration, the Mega Bazooka Launcher could compact itself into a more manageable transport configuration. This transformation capability made it practical for mobile suits to carry and deploy the weapon system during combat operations.
Firing configuration
When preparing to fire, the Mega Bazooka Launcher deployed hand and foot grips that allowed the mobile suit to lock onto the weapon securely. This docking system ensured stability during the firing sequence and allowed the pilot to accurately aim the massive weapon despite its size and recoil.
The firing mode required the weapon to extend its barrel and deploy stabilising components, creating a platform stable enough to handle the enormous forces generated by the mega particle cannon. The transformation from transport to firing configuration was designed to be completed quickly to maintain tactical flexibility.
Armaments
Mega particle cannon
The primary and only armament of the FHA-03M1 was its mega particle cannon, capable of generating destructive energy that exceeded the firepower of battleship main guns. The weapon fired concentrated Minovsky particles that could penetrate virtually any known mobile suit armour and were capable of destroying most targets with a single direct hit.
The cannon’s immense power came at the cost of lengthy charging periods between shots, making careful target selection and timing crucial for effective employment. However, when properly used, the weapon could eliminate high-value targets that would otherwise require concentrated fire from multiple units to destroy.
Operational use
The Mega Bazooka Launcher was primarily employed in long-range bombardment roles, where its devastating firepower could be brought to bear against heavily defended positions or large enemy units. Its extreme range allowed mobile suits to engage targets from outside the effective range of most enemy weapons, providing a significant tactical advantage.
The weapon proved particularly effective against mobile armours and large vessels, where its high-powered shots could penetrate heavy armour that might resist conventional beam weapons. During the Gryps Conflict, Char used it to great effect against Titans mobile armours and defensive positions that conventional weapons could not easily penetrate.

Behind the scenes
The FHA-03M1 Mega Bazooka Launcher was designed as a signature weapon for Char Aznable during Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, reflecting his tactical role as both an ace pilot and a commander requiring heavy firepower capabilities. The weapon’s design emphasised the contrast between mobility and firepower that characterised much of the series’ mechanical design philosophy.
The weapon’s reappearance in Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn demonstrated the longevity of effective weapon designs in the Universal Century timeline, showing how successful systems continued to serve long after their original conflicts.
