EMS-04 Zudah
Prototype general purpose mobile suit developed by Zimmad.
The EMS-04 Zudah was a prototype general purpose mobile suit developed by Zimmad that competed with the MS-05B Zaku I for the Principality of Zeon’s mass production contract.
The “EMS” model number prefix is unusual among Zeon mobile suits, with only the EMS-05 Agg sharing this designation. Usually, prototype mobile suits use the “YMS” prefix. The “04” indicated it was the fourth design in this experimental series.
History
In UC 0075, Zimmad and Zeonic competed for a contract to mass produce a mobile suit for the Principality of Zeon. During the Principality of Zeon’s race to develop a superior fighting machine, four prototype mobile suits were developed from different engineering companies: one of these was Zimmad’s EMS-04 Zudah.
Despite having superior manoeuvrability to the MS-05B Zaku I, Zimmad’s EMS-04 Zudah lost to the design that was mass produced as the Zaku I. The reason for its rejection was a fatal flaw in the Zudah’s high performance Jupiter engine that caused it to explode when overexerted. Additionally, the cost of each Zudah unit was 1.8 times higher than the Zaku I.
Zeonic used this information about the engine flaw to outdo the Zudah with their well-known YMS-05 Zaku and successfully marketed the Zaku series. Despite losing out to the Zaku I, Zimmad continued development on the Zudah and created the “improved” EMS-10 model in UC 0079 during the One Year War. However, technical evaluation by Zeon engineers revealed that the upgraded EMS-10 was mostly identical to the original version and was being touted as improved merely for propaganda purposes.
Design
The EMS-04 Zudah had a good power plant with unprecedented thrust and acceleration. It also adopted a prototype engine known as the Jupiter engine which was based on Zimmad’s prototype Mercury engine. The Jupiter engine used wide-area propellant technology that uses heavy elements such as zinc and lead, allowing large thrust to be obtained compared to thrusters that use light elements.
However, the suit did have critical limits: if the engines were overexerted, the suit would overload and break apart. This fundamental design flaw proved fatal during testing and was the primary reason for its rejection in favour of the more reliable Zaku series.
The Zudah was constructed from super hard steel alloy armour and featured a standard cockpit configuration in the torso. It was equipped with a shield mounted on the left shoulder as standard equipment.
Armaments
The EMS-04 Zudah’s standard armament consisted of a shoulder-mounted shield for defence, though specific details about its weapons loadout remain largely unknown.
Shield
The Zudah was equipped with a shield mounted on the left shoulder as its primary defensive armament. This shield provided protection against enemy fire and served as the mobile suit’s most notable fixed equipment.

The Zudah’s backstory was based on the Heinkel He 100, which competed with the Messerschmitt Bf 109 to become the Luftwaffe’s main fighter and lost. The He 100 was later rebranded as the Heinkel He 113, a non-existent “ghost fighter” that appeared in various Nazi propaganda, paralleling the Zudah’s own role as a propaganda weapon in the One Year War.
The EMS model number prefix is highly unusual for Zeon mobile suits, as most prototypes used the “YMS” designation. This unique prefix may reflect Zimmad’s different approach to mobile suit development or indicate a special classification for this experimental design.
