Core 3
Neo Zeon-controlled colony and site of civil war battle.
Core 3 (コア3, Koa Surī) was a space colony under Neo Zeon control during the First Neo Zeon War that became the site of intense fighting during Glemy Toto’s rebellion against Haman Karn. The Battle of Core 3 exemplified how Neo Zeon’s civil war weakened the faction whilst AEUG forces exploited the internal conflict.1
Description
Core 3 operated as a strategic colony firmly under Neo Zeon authority. Military installations dotted the complex, and its location within Neo Zeon-held space made it a tangible symbol of the faction’s strength.2
Neo Zeon control
Throughout the First Neo Zeon War, the colony functioned as a logistics hub and garrison, supporting ongoing operations and reinforcing Neo Zeon’s territorial claims.2
Battle of Core 3
When Glemy Toto rebelled against Haman Karn, Core 3 became the focal point of Neo Zeon’s civil war. Loyalists and rebels fought viciously for control of the colony, while the AEUG exploited the infighting to strike both sides.1 The conflict left the colony heavily damaged, with civilian areas caught in the crossfire and infrastructure reduced to wreckage—a stark reminder of how internal power struggles destroy the very assets factions claim to protect.
Significance
Core 3 illustrates the cost of civil war. The fighting destroyed critical infrastructure, endangered civilians, and squandered military resources that Neo Zeon could ill afford to lose. As a highly contested asset, the colony underscored how control of key locations equated to political legitimacy. Its eventual devastation symbolised Neo Zeon’s self-inflicted decline, showing how division doomed the movement from within.
Behind the Scenes
Core 3 was created for Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ as site of the Battle of Core 3, providing location for Neo Zeon’s self-destructive civil war. The colony demonstrated how internal conflicts destroyed the infrastructure and populations factions claimed to protect.3
