The Gaza-B was a mass production transformable mobile suit developed by the Principality of Zeon.

History

The Principality of Zeon developed mobile suits to change warfare completely in the Universal Century. Aside from combat mobile suits, Zeon created mobile suits for non-combat purposes. The Gaza-B was produced specifically for construction work.

Zeon deployed Gaza-B units in many territories, most notably on the asteroid base of Axis in the Asteroid Belt. After the One Year War, Zeon refugees fleeing the Earth Sphere and the inhabitants of Axis formed Axis Zeon.

Due to the shortage of resources and skilled personnel after the war, Axis Zeon engineers used the Gaza-A and Gaza-B as the basis of their next generation transformable mobile suit, the AMX-003 (MMT-1) Gaza-C. Gaza-A and Gaza-B parts were stripped to build the Gaza-C units. This allowed Axis Zeon to build over a hundred Gaza-C units within a short period of time, providing it with military strength to exert Zeon influence when it returned to the Earth Sphere in UC 0087.

Design

The Gaza-B was developed from the Gaza-A developed by Principality of Zeon forces on Axis for construction purposes on the asteroid base. The Gaza-A was a standard mobile suit while Gaza-B was a transformable mobile suit.

The mobile armour mode allowed the Gaza-B to perform certain tasks more effectively than in mobile suit mode, such as when it was equipped with a lifting crane or drilling backpack.

Behind the scenes

Yuji Ushida was the principal mechanical designer. Although the Gaza-B was designated with the model number AMX-002, in the Double Fake: Under the Gundam manga, it is considered less canon compared to the AMX-002 (AMA-X2) Neue Ziel which appeared in the OVA Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory. Hence the model number AMX-002 is attributed to the Neue Ziel on MechaBay.
