The MAX-03 Adzam was an experimental ground combat mobile armour developed by the Principality of Zeon. The “MA” in the model code refers to it being a mobile armour, while the “X” identifies it as an experimental model. The “03” in the model code indicates that it was the third design.
History
The MAX-03 Adzam was one of the earliest mobile armour designs to be produced by the Principality of Zeon. Its design was based on the G87 Luna Tank. The Adzam was produced in limited numbers.
One unit was assigned to M’quve’s mining division on Earth. M’quve and Kycilia Zabi piloted the Adzam in battle against the Earth Federation mobile suit, the RX-78-2 Gundam. The Gundam was almost destroyed by an attack from the mobile armour’s leader weaponry. The leader superheated the mobile suit and prevented it from moving. However, the effectiveness of the leader powder wore off and Gundam pilot Amuro Ray was able to deal significant damage to the Adzam, forcing it to retreat.
A second unit was in Odessa](/odessa/ “Odessa”). This Adzam unit was destroyed by the RX-79[G] Gundam Ground Type piloted by Matt Healy. In November UC 0079, a third unit stationed in Australia was destroyed by the White Dingo Team led by Master Pierce Rayer.
Development of the Adzam was continued even though it was not mass produced. In UC 0120, [Mars Zeon][] used an updated version, the [OMAX-03RF RF Adzam][].
Design
The MAX-03 Adzam was based on the G87 Luna Tank. It was equipped with the experimental Minovksy craft system that allowed it to hover for an unlimited period of time. It was also armed with the leader weaponry system.

Armaments
The Adzam had mega particle cannons for ranged combat and it utilised the leader weaponry for medium range combat.
Mega particle cannons
The Adzam was mounted with eight two-barrel mega particle cannons. Four were mounted on the top and four on the bottom to provide the mobile armour with a 360-degree firing angle.
Leaders
Three leaders were mounted on the Adzam. These delivered powerful plasma electrical charge. To improve the effectiveness of the leader attack, Zeon scientists designed a self-exploding projectile that carried highly conductive powder. The mobile armour would launch the projectile to cover the target with the powder and anchor the target to the ground with the leader. It would then deliver the electrical charge to disable the enemy mobile weapon by overloading its onboard electronics.
The leader weaponry was improved and used in the MA-06 Val Waro
