The MSM-07S Z’Gok Commander Type was a commander’s high-powered amphibious mobile suit developed by the Principality of Zeon. The “MS” in the model code refers to it being a mobile suit, while the “M” identifies it as a marine model. The “07” in the model code indicates that it was the seventh design. The “S” means it was an upgraded version of the standard Z’Gok.
The Principality of Zeon was desperately developing a mobile weapon to advance its territories on Earth during the One Year War. The Zimmad Company designed the MSM-03 Gogg that revolutionised the approach to a marine mobile suit. The Zimmad Company’s success prompted its competitor, the Zeonic Company to develop a design with the same concepts and its efforts culminated in the MSM-04 Acguy.
Not to be outdone by its major mobile weapon manufacturers, the MIP Company started working on an underwater-use mobile suit as well. The MIP Company developed the [MSM-07 Z’Gok] that was considered the most successful amphibious mobile suit design. The success of the Z’Gok Commander Type prompted the MIP Company to improve its design with the MSM-07S Z’Gok Commander Type.
The Z’Gok Commander Type was usually assigned to ace pilots and squad leaders. On 30 November, UC 0079, ace pilot Char Aznable used a unit during Zeon’s assault on the Earth Federation military headquarters Jaburo.
“MSM-07S Z’Gok Commander Type from Mobile Suit Variations
The MSM-03 Gogg and the MSM-04 Acguy used ballast water tanks to cool their reactors. However these tanks were bulky and weighed the mobile suits down. The MSM-07S Z’Gok Commander Type dealt with this problem by using a propeller cooling system in place of the ballast tanks.
When the Z’Gok Commander Type was submerged in water, the propellers drew water into the mobile suit from its surroundings to remove the heat from the reactor. When the Z’Gok Commander Type was out of water, the propellers sucked in air to cool the reactor. This allowed the power plant to be cooled sufficiently regardless of whether the mobile suit was in or out of water. This cooling system was more efficient, allowing the Z’Gok Commander Type to be equipped with an more powerful reactor.
The absence of ballast tanks reduced the weight of the mobile suit, making it more agile on land and in water.
The Z’Gok Commander Type was equipped with fixed ranged weapons and used claws for close range combat.
The Z’Gok Commander Type had a pair of claws that it used for melee combat. By using the momentum generated by the mobile suit’s powerful thrusters, the claws were able to destroy a Federation RGM-79 GM with a single blow.
Six 240 mm missile launchers were mounted in the top of the suit’s head. Each launcher carried five rounds of magazines, giving the pilot a healthy supply of thirty missiles.
Mega particle cannons
The Z’Gok Commander Type had a mega particle cannon built into each forearm. These made it more natural for the pilots to aim and gave the cannon a larger firing angle. These cannons were powered directly by its reactor. The efficient cooling system gave the cannons a high firing rate without the risk of over heating.
