Mad Angler-class submarine

The Mad Angler-class was a line of submarines produced by the Principality of Zeon.

History

The Earth Federation produced several submarines during the One Year War. The Lockwood-class submarines were captured by the Principality of Zeon who then modified them into the Mad Angler-class submarines in their California base.

These were first seen in action in June UC 0079 and eight units were known to have been in service. One of the known ships of the line was the Bwo-Kuto.

Design

The Principality of Zeon captured the Earth Federation Lockwood-class submarines and modified them to transport their amphibious mobile weapons. The most noticeable change was the enlarged hull that had sufficient space to hold a squadron of up to six mobile weapons.

Armaments

The Mad Angler-class submarine was armed with missile and torpedo launchers for both ship-to-ship and ship-to-surface bombardments.

Missile launcher

There were ten missile launchers built into the hull of the submarine. These were mainly used for ship-to-surface attacks.

Torpedo launcher

The submarine had nine torpedo launchers that were used to for ship-to-ship attacks.

Behind the scenes

Yoshiyuki Tomino was the principal mechanical designer and Kunio Okawara assisted with the cleaning up of the design.
